The ASK amplifier fault in Porsche vehicles is
a technical fault that leads to a complete loss of sound
in the factory audio system. The main causes of failure are moisture damage, wear of components (the so-called “cold solder joints”) or voltage surges in the electrical system.
You get into your Porsche in the morning, ready for a spirited drive to work with your favourite music playing. You turn the key, the PCM screen springs to life, but from the speakers… complete silence. Sound familiar? If you own a Porsche, you probably know this all too well.
It’s frustrating, because you have an advanced audio system in the car that suddenly becomes useless. Instead of enjoying the sound, you travel in silence, and on top of that the navigation prompts and hands-free system stop working. Before you start looking for a used amplifier with an uncertain history or get hit with the eye-watering price of a new one at an authorised dealer – stop.
In this article we’ll show you why your ASK amplifier fails and how we carry out an effective refurbishment (repair usually takes 1-3 working days, you receive a 24-month warranty, and the total cost is 1230 zł incl. VAT).

How do you identify the ASK amplifier in your Porsche?
The simplest method is a visual check. ASK amplifiers are fitted in models including Cayenne, Panamera, 911 (997, 991), Boxster and Macan. They are usually located in the boot, on the right-hand side, hidden behind the trim.
The most reliable way to identify it is to read the data on the label on the unit’s casing.

Check the following details:
- Manufacturer: Always ASK. You can find manufacturer information on the ASK Industries website.
- Part numbers (Part Number): The numbers may vary depending on the model and version of the car. Example version numbers include:
- 7P5.035.223.A, 7P5.035.223.G, 7P5.035.223.H, 7P5.035.223.J
- 95B.035.223
- 970.645.443.02
- 997.645.443.01, 991.645.441.03
- 981.645.442.01, 981.645.442.02

Typical symptoms of an ASK amplifier fault
An ASK amplifier failure can show itself in several ways. Does any of the descriptions below match your situation?
1. Complete loss of sound (temperature-dependent fault)
This is the most characteristic symptom. You get into a cold car and are greeted by silence. The radio and navigation work, but there is no sound. Only when the cabin heats up significantly, for example after parking in the sun, does the sound magically return. In time, this “lottery” ends in a permanent failure.
2. Random loss of sound
Sound works, but can suddenly disappear for a few minutes or hours, then return on its own. Sometimes the loss is preceded by crackling, and sometimes there is simply silence. The frequency of the fault increases over time, so you never know whether the audio system will work.
3. No bass
The music plays, but the sound is flat, “empty” and lacking depth. All low-frequency speakers (subwoofers, bass speakers in the doors) are silent. This makes a high-end audio system sound like a cheap Android radio.
4. Constant noise or hissing from the speakers
Even with the radio muted, a constant audible hiss comes from the speakers. It is present from the moment the ignition is switched on and becomes an irritating background noise that takes all the pleasure out of listening to music.
Main causes of failure – why won’t the amplifier switch on?
A “dead” amplifier fault is rarely accidental. In our experience there are three main causes that lead to its damage.
1. Moisture or water damage
This is the number one enemy of car electronics. ASK amplifiers in Porsche models are often fitted in the boot. Leaks, a window not fully closed (a common issue in cars imported from the USA) or spilled liquid can easily allow water into the unit, causing corrosion and irreparable damage to the main board.
2. Wear of components (“cold solder joints”)
After many years of operation and thousands of heating and cooling cycles, microscopic solder joints on the main board crack. When it is cold, the circuit is broken and the unit does not work. Only once the car interior warms up do the metal elements expand, temporarily restoring the connection and the sound. This is the main cause of “temperature-dependent” faults.
3. Voltage spikes (jump-starting from a booster)
Electronics in premium cars are very sensitive. Using a cheap booster or connecting jump leads incorrectly generates sudden voltage spikes that can instantly “burn out” key components in the amplifier power supply section or damage communication on the MOST bus.
What does the repair process look like step by step?
Our process is 100% transparent. You know exactly what is happening to your unit at every stage.
1. Contact and safe shipping (1 day)
Contact us to describe the problem. You will receive all the information needed for shipping. Then carefully pack and send us the removed amplifier.
2. Fault verification on the test bench (1-2 days)
After receiving the parcel, we connect your amplifier to a dedicated test environment that simulates operation in your car (with the PCM3 unit and speakers). We confirm the fault and inform you of the fixed repair cost for approval.
3. Repair and protection (1-3 days)
This is the heart of the whole operation. Our technicians repair the damaged components, using only new parts. If the unit has been flooded, after repair we additionally protect the main board with a special protective coating (Plastik 70), which shields it from moisture in future.
4. Final testing and return shipment (1 day)
After repair, the amplifier goes through a series of tests. We check not only sound quality on all channels, but also current draw and the correct module "sleep" function, to eliminate the risk of battery drain. After successful testing and payment of the invoice, we pack the fully working unit and send it back to you.
Repair cost vs other options – which is more worthwhile?
You have three options. Let’s analyse them:
- New part from an authorised dealer: This is the most expensive option. The price of a new ASK amplifier from an authorised Porsche dealer is in the region of several thousand złoty.
- Used part: On auction sites you will find used amplifiers priced from around 800 zł to over 3000 zł. The risk is enormous, however – most often you only get a 14-day startup warranty. A used part may have the same hidden fault as yours. Users on forums such as Rennlist often describe problems with used modules.
- Our repair: We offer a reliable and transparent solution. The repair cost is 1230 zł incl. VAT. For this price you receive a fully refurbished unit with a 24-month written warranty. It’s peace of mind for years, not weeks.
