Replacing the main board in the unit is a last resort for us – although sometimes it is the only repair method. In what cases does the entire core of the unit need to be replaced? For example, when the unit board cracks and there are no connections between the layers. Such situations are rare and happen only occasionally. In the Ford Denso navigation made by Visteon there are a number of typical faults – we have already introduced you to some of them in our posts on the site (check the situations when
you have no option to enter the code
).
We want to bust the myth that replacing the main board is necessary for many problems, so today in the workshop once again
Denso
.
This time a specific issue with the PIN code –
there is no option to enter it on the screen
.
Does the fault concern my radio?
In a properly working system, if we disconnect the power for a longer moment (e.g. disconnect the battery), reconnecting the power brings up a screen with the option to enter the code.
The process looks like this:

Unfortunately, instead of seeing the screen with the option to enter the code, only the climate and navigation options are displayed, and the keypad is limited to digits 1–6. In addition, proof of this fault is the infinity symbol where the radio symbol should be.
Causes of the problem
We like to set straight conspiracy theories, so below is a short list of what definitely does not cause this fault:
- disconnecting the power (in a working car and navigation radio you can disconnect the battery as many times as you like, without worrying that it will break the radio!)
- a fault in the GPS reader (the drive in the boot is not the cause of such anomalies)
- a short circuit in the electrical or speaker wiring
- a faulty cooling system (supposedly a non-working fan)
- other stories you can find on Google
Temporary “solution”
Internet forums offer a ready-made fix that supposedly works – disconnecting the battery for a day. With a bit of luck it will work, but only until next time. Only recommended if you want to live with the uncertainty of when the problem will come back. And how long will it last? As long as it wants to – maybe a few minutes, maybe even a few days. Unless you get rid of the problem for good.
Effective radio repair
The problem lies solely and exclusively in the radio module. That is the part that needs repairing. Don’t let anyone tell you your radio is for the scrap heap or needs replacing. It doesn’t. It can be repaired quickly and effectively.
Will the problem come back?
No. We are confident that if we confirm the fault, we will repair it so effectively that the problem will not return. We have dealt with many radios in this series and they all work properly again. Of course, you are covered by a warranty.
Other faults
As part of repairing the missing code screen fault, we carry out a general inspection of the unit. The original problem is on the main board, so while we are at it we check the rest of the system. If anything worries us, you will certainly be informed. We do not do a bodge job, you can be sure of that. If you do not have or have forgotten the PIN code for your unit, we will remind you of it as part of the service.
