RNS 310 repair Software update needed, Please insert download data carrier

RNS 310, the Bosch navigation system, is a popular unit fitted in Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles. We are often brought units damaged during software loading – this applies both to attempts to “Polonise” and to updates. We do not recommend such experiments – the software available online is “unreliable” and contains errors, and the “Polonisation” itself is incomplete and without Polish voice guidance.

What are the symptoms of a failed firmware upload?

  • the device shows the brand logo (VW, Skoda or Seat), after a moment there is a brief reset and then the navigation screen flashes 3 times
(the backlight is on, but there is no content), the CD drive does not respond when media is inserted
  • the navigation turns on, but after a moment a white screen appears with the message
“Software update needed, Please insert download data carrier„
  • the navigation turns on but the colours and graphics are damaged (shifted buttons, swapped content, colour)
  • the unit flashes, freezes on the start screen or does not respond to the buttons
  • has another fault not listed above
