White screen in the Convers cluster

Ford instrument clusters are rather failure-prone units – in most cases the faults are caused by the electronics. The good news is that a range of problems that may appear can be repaired in our workshop. White screen in the Convers+ cluster is another fault we had to deal with.

Can the cluster be tested before and after repair?

Many people ask us over the phone whether it is possible to check the unit after repair. Of course it is – before sending it back we must be sure that everything on the cluster side is working as it should. We have a testing set that allows us to check not only communication between the cluster and the BCM, but also gauge operation, display correctness and ignition logic operation.

In this particular case, apart from the original fault of the CAN bus not working, the problem was a display fault. The entire colour screen was lit white. Where did such a fault come from? The unit showed signs of a previous repair attempt, and the controller circuit for the LCD module had short circuits. In the end everything returned to normal, and the customer refitted the working display.

Convers clusters are divided into several types; we wrote about how to identify a specific version earlier.

The next post on this topic will concern the problem of the Convers cluster resetting cyclically.

Additional information:

  • normally, the turnaround time for the service is 1-2 working days after delivery of the unit to our company
  • we can also carry out the service on site, while you wait, after prior arrangement of the date and conditions
