Scania AUS4 Basic radio stuck on logo

Since 2017, Scania tractors have been fitted with radios called AUS4 Basic or navigation units marked HU Scania AUS4 STD. These units are made by Harman Becker and the typical fault customers face is freezing on the startup logo. A second-hand radio only works for a short while — the vehicle number lock prevents trouble-free use. In 99% of cases we can repair your faulty multimedia system while preserving the original calibration data. That means you do not need to worry about a repeat, costly and hard-to-carry-out adaptation to the vehicle.

Differences between AUS4 versions

Scania tractors are fitted with radios with a 5″ screen called AUS4 Basic (with DAB or without digital radio) and navigation units with a colour touchscreen, marked AUS4 STD (also available with or without DAB). The main difference is the lack of navigation in the Basic version.

Typical faults in radios from Scania tractors

The most common faults we encounter when servicing AUS4 are:

  • freezing on the startup logo
  • does not switch on at all – black screen
  • crackling in the speakers, humming
  • mechanical faults (e.g. a cracked LCD display).

What causes it to freeze on the startup logo?

From conversations with customers, it appears that the fault is most often caused by starting the vehicle from an additional power source – the so-called booster. The delicate electronics in the radio or navigation unit are damaged by sudden voltage spikes. This then leads to hardware, software or combined faults.

Why does a used Scania radio lock up after 3 hours?

AUS4 models do not have a typical digital security code. Instead, the manufacturer has used vehicle-number protection. The VIN is coded into the device’s flash memory and if you move the radio to another vehicle, the system recognises the new vehicle number and the radio locks permanently. That is why for so many customers it is important to repair their original equipment from the tractor.

What are the typical repair costs for Scania AUS4?

The first stage of the repair is verification and expert assessment of the condition (usually 1-3 days from receipt), but we can give an approximate price: repair of the AUS4 Basic 5″ version is 2460 zł incl. VAT, and the AUS4 STD 8″ version is 3690 zł incl. VAT.

Remember that the proper repair will only begin after your acceptance of the final costs and conditions.
