Denso asks for the PIN — why is the code sometimes not enough?
After disconnecting the battery, a working radio may ask for the security code. The problem begins when the correct PIN does not restore operation. In Denso, repeatedly entering the wrong code can lock the attempt counter stored in the unit. The radio then returns to asking for the PIN even after the correct combination has been entered. The counter needs to be unlocked; further guessing of the code will not solve the problem.
Another fault is an unusual screen with digits from 1 to 6 instead of the correct code keypad. In the repairs we describe, the cause lay in the radio electronics. Recovering the PIN alone or clearing the counter does not remove this damage. That is why a photo of the whole screen is useful with your enquiry: “I have the code, but the radio does not work” may describe two different problems.
What does Denso refurbishment mean?
The radio may start working again after the battery is disconnected, and then refuse to cooperate again after some time. Such a return to operation does not prove that the fault has disappeared. In the case of a hardware problem with the PIN 1–6 screen, the connections on the main board, i.e. the internal board with the radio electronics, may be damaged. A reset does not repair these connections.
We repair damaged connections and inspect other areas of the board that are exposed to similar problems. We test the unit on the bench before and after the work. We do not assume in advance that the whole board needs replacing: the refurbishment we describe restored the existing electronics to working order. If previous repair attempts damaged the tracks — the small connections on the board — or if the board itself cracked, such a refurbishment may not be enough.
Repairing your own radio or buying a used one?
Denso works with other elements of the car, and its panel is also used to control the climate control. When choosing a used unit, a similar appearance is not enough: you need to confirm the correct version, the full part number and the start-up conditions in the car. On top of that comes the condition of the unit being purchased, which a photo alone cannot confirm.
When we refurbish your own radio, without replacing the board or changing the software, we keep its settings. In the case we confirmed, after refitting the unit the PIN code was needed, but no additional pairing of the radio to the car. That is different from fitting a unit from another car. If the problem started after an interrupted update or a previous radio replacement, tell us in your enquiry — that is a different starting point from repairing an original unit that previously worked.
