An effective way to repair dead pixels in Alfa Connect series radios

Alfa Connect after display repair

Nothing is as irritating as burnt-out rows or columns on a car radio display. At least to us.
If you drive a Fiat or Alfa Romeo and have a 1-DIN radio-navigation unit from the Connect series, there is a high chance that you have, or will have, problems with the display working properly.

Dead pixels on the radio display

This type of fault starts to trouble the user gradually. At first individual pixels disappear sporadically, and with time whole rows or columns vanish. The situation becomes so uncomfortable that even changing a radio station can be a major challenge if you do not know the menu by heart. The photo above is a classic example of a problem that completely prevents the equipment from being used. In theory, a hopeless situation.. in theory.

An effective way to repair dead pixels in Alfa Connect series radios

Our idea for repairing this type of fault came out of necessity. A few years ago, a radio from this series with exactly this defect belonged to our colleague. This was back when the company’s priority was GSM service, so before the radio reached our bench, it had already been to several local car audio and RTV workshops. We do not like giving up, and right from the start we decided that we had to fix it. The repair idea itself – restoring the display – was 100% successful. The display came back to life and started working like new. In fact, it still works to this day, making journeys in an Alfa Romeo more enjoyable. We still use this proven method today.

Will the repair be effective?

Quite often customers ask us whether the repair will be effective. Usually it is. Usually – because sometimes radios arrive at our workshop after “repairs”, where someone has had a go and caused more damage than benefit. That is why, whenever we speak to a customer about display repair, we always ask whether the unit has already been repaired elsewhere. Occasionally the display control circuit is damaged – from experience we can say this is a small percentage of cases. In such situations the only solution is to replace the display with a new one.

Alfa Connect radio unlocking

After the quick repair, once the radio has been refitted in the car, all that remains is to enter the unlock code and enjoy the repaired display.
If for any reason you do not have the code or are not sure of it, just tell us when placing the repair order. We will check whether the one you have is correct or, if needed, provide the appropriate code card together with the original security code. We can also carry out the unlocking service remotely, based on a photo of the sticker with the unit’s serial numbers.
