Screen shows an image, but the touch function does not work
If the radio selects a different number when you touch one, the problem may be due to calibration. In HSRNS and HSMCA, holding the MENU button for a few seconds opens the calibration menu without using the touch screen. Follow the on-screen instructions.
If calibration does not help, this does not yet mean the whole display needs replacing. The touch panel and electronics need to be checked. Stripes in the picture are a separate fault — in one of our jobs we repaired damaged connections after a drink was spilled.
Restart, PIN message and start-up problem
Before submitting it, note exactly what happens before the restart: switching the unit on, selecting HOME, or trying to enter the code. If you can, record a short video of the fault and include the text of the message. That is more helpful than simply saying “the radio does not work”.
Do not try to start the unit by heating the board. If such an attempt was made before, or if the memory was repaired, let us know. We assess the condition of the electronics and the possibility of repair even after previous repair attempts.
Repair your own unit or look for another one?
First it is worth establishing what is damaged. A touch, display or start-up fault may require a different scope of work; not every defect means the whole radio needs replacing.
Before buying a used unit, check the full part number, DVD or SD version, and the car’s equipment. A similar panel does not confirm compatibility. The list of numbers is for identification — the conditions for swapping and any matching of another unit require separate checking.
