The radio or navigation keeps switching off at intervals
NX or FX starts up, then switches off again or resets. Check whether, at the same moment, the radio also disappears from the Convers+ menu — this link helps identify a communication fault.
Factory vehicle instrument cluster
Manufacturer: Visteon
The radio switches itself off, disappears from the cluster menu or the climate control does not work? The cause may be a problem with information exchange between modules, in other words CAN communication. We repair such faults in Convers+ instrument clusters and check whether the cluster is responsible for the symptoms in your Ford.
Quick repair quote
Convers+ is a Visteon instrument cluster with a large colour display between the rev counter and the speedometer. It is found in the Ford Mondeo IV, S-Max I and Galaxy II. To identify the version we need a photo of the front and the full number from the label — a similar appearance does not mean identical electronics.
Applications: versions with the colour Convers+ instrument cluster. We confirm the correct variant by the part number.
Convers+ has a colour display. A red display means a different version of the instrument cluster — Convers without the plus. When submitting your enquiry, state which variant you have in the car.
These number prefixes appear in different Convers+ variants. The AM2T version may look similar to the earlier 7M2T and 8M2T, despite differences in electronics and software. Do not choose a replacement based on the front photo alone.
Take a photo of the entire instrument cluster label and copy the designation together with the ending letters, e.g. 7M2T-10849-CF. The number prefix helps identify the version, but only the full designation allows specific units to be compared.
Compare the full number from the label, including the letters at the end. The designations below help identify Convers+; they are not a list of parts that can be swapped freely between cars.
The following symptoms may accompany CAN communication problems. A radio reset or a missing menu item alone does not mean the instrument cluster is faulty. We check cluster communication; the scope of repair is determined once the fault has been identified.
NX or FX starts up, then switches off again or resets. Check whether, at the same moment, the radio also disappears from the Convers+ menu — this link helps identify a communication fault.
The navigation reports that the key has not been turned or switches to one-hour mode. It may not be receiving the correct ignition signal; we need to determine which side of the connection the problem is on.
The settings or on-board computer remain on screen, but the radio functions are no longer available. A working image on Convers+ does not rule out a communication fault with other modules.
You cannot change the temperature or airflow from the radio panel, and at the same time there are problems with its operation. Report both symptoms together, even if at first you only noticed a navigation fault.
Repair of the CAN communication fault in the Convers+ cluster. The cost and scope of work are confirmed after checking the unit, before repair begins. The current offer concerns CAN communication. It does not include repair of the display itself, changes to the backlighting, or converting the cluster to another variant. We issue a VAT invoice.
After inspection, we present the scope and price of the cluster communication repair. Work starts once you approve it.
Inspection 1–3 days, repair 2–5 days. Transport and any removal and refitting must be added to this. We confirm the lead time together with the scope of work.
12–24 months warranty, depending on the service carried out. We provide the conditions together with the quote.
When the navigation goes dark or stops responding, you naturally suspect the radio. In Ford models with Convers+, however, the units exchange information over the CAN network. If that communication fails, the radio may not receive the ignition-on signal, and multimedia functions disappear from the cluster menu. The colour screen itself may still work correctly.
That is why it is not worth buying another navigation unit straight away. In our cases, very similar symptoms appeared with both cluster and radio faults. The combination tells us the most: behaviour after switching on the ignition, the radio being present in the menu, and the climate control operation. If the description does not let us separate these causes, we can agree to check the cluster together with the navigation unit. We decide the dispatch scope in advance so that you do not remove both units unnecessarily.
The cluster can correctly display speed and the on-board computer, while still having a problem exchanging information with the radio. That is why two separate things matter in the fault description: what you can see on the cluster screen and how the other devices behave. If the image is clear, but the radio disappears from the menu or does not recognise the ignition being switched on, the communication needs to be checked. Replacing the display alone will not remove a confirmed CAN communication fault.
The reverse situation also needs to be distinguished: a white or dark screen with the radio working correctly does not confirm a CAN fault. Image and communication problems can also occur together. After a previous repair attempt, new damage may have been added, so it is worth stating which symptoms were present from the start and which appeared later. This helps define the scope of inspection without assuming that all faults have one cause.
Buying a second cluster only makes sense once you know that your current unit is responsible for the reported problem. If the cause lies in the navigation unit, replacing the Convers+ will not fix it. First it is worth establishing the source of the fault, then finding out the scope and cost of repair. Only then can you compare that specific offer with buying another compatible unit.
When comparing costs, take into account not only the price in the advert, but also compatibility checking and any preparation of the cluster for use in your car. Similar appearance does not determine the electronics version or installation requirements. We do not assume from the outset that repair will always be more cost-effective: after inspection, you receive a quote and decide whether to accept it. If you withdraw or the unit cannot be repaired, the inspection and return are free of charge.
01
Give the Ford model and year. Attach a photo of the front and the label on the cluster, and in the description note what happens with the radio, the Convers+ menu and the climate control. Also say whether any of these components have been repaired or replaced before.
02
Usually we need the cluster for checking. If the symptoms may be caused by the navigation unit, before shipping we will agree whether that module is also needed. Protect the cluster lens and secure the unit in a rigid box.
03
We check the unit and confirm the cost and scope of repair. Work starts once you approve it. We can arrange a courier both ways at our expense.
04
After repair and testing, we send the unit back with the sales document and warranty terms. Payment is made before dispatch or on delivery.
How a cluster fault can affect NX or FX operation, and how the Convers+ versions differ.
Archived case from 2017: two faults in one cluster and unit testing on the bench. This description is not a current display repair offer.
We currently repair CAN communication faults in these instrument clusters. We do not offer repair of the display itself. If radio resets or loss of climate control operation occur alongside the image problem, describe all symptoms before sending the unit — we will confirm the scope of service.
Do not send both units without prior arrangement. In some cases the symptoms are enough to identify the cluster for inspection, while in others it is also worth checking the navigation unit. Give its model, e.g. NX or FX, and describe what disappears from the Convers+ menu when the radio stops working.
This offer covers repair of CAN communication in the instrument cluster you have. It does not include conversion to another variant, changes to the backlighting or adding functions. Red Convers and colour Convers+ must be distinguished when you submit the enquiry.
Yes. Send a photo of the full label and the front of the instrument cluster. The list helps identify known markings, but it does not replace checking your version and the symptoms. A matching number prefix alone does not determine the scope of repair.
Yes. Write what work was carried out and whether the symptoms changed afterwards. In the unit we described, apart from the communication fault we found damage to the screen control after earlier interference. This information helps distinguish the original fault from additional damage.
Inspection and return shipping are free even if you do not accept the quote, the unit turns out to be working, or the repair is not possible. We do not start paid work without your consent.
