Frequently asked questions and answers

Repair of BMW F11 radio, navigation and amplifiers: enquiry, module dispatch and quote.

Do you repair the Harman Kardon amplifier from the BMW F11?

Yes, we accept factory Harman Kardon amplifiers manufactured by Harman Becker from this BMW generation. We inspect the removed amplifier only, and you arrange removal from the boot locally.

The amplifier in the BMW F11 was standing in water. Is drying it enough?

No, drying alone does not stop the corrosion that has already started on the board after contact with water. Such an amplifier needs to be opened and its electronics assessed, so please report it for inspection without delay.

What symptoms indicate a flooded amplifier in the BMW F11?

These may include crackling or humming, no sound from some speakers, a blown amplifier fuse, and eventually complete silence. The screen then shows a message about missing acoustic notifications.

When might amplifier repair from a BMW F11 fail?

The chances are lower when the board has burnt areas, there is a strong smell of burning, the amplifier has stood in water for a long time, or it is mechanically damaged. We will assess this after checking the removed module.

How should I prepare a BMW F11 amplifier enquiry?

Give the car’s year, describe the fault and say whether there was water in the boot. Attach photos of the amplifier and the sticker with the part number, and we will prepare an initial quote before dispatch.

Repair of the BMW F11 radio, navigation and amplifier at OEMatic concerns the factory units for this model. In the F10/F11 generation of the 5 Series, we repair, among other things, Harman Kardon amplifiers manufactured by Harman Becker, marked B104, BE 9510 or B217.

Harman Kardon amplifier in the boot

The Harman Kardon amplifier in BMW F Series models is fitted in the boot, in a separate side compartment. If water gets into the boot, for example through the tailgate being left open in the rain or through worn seals, moisture goes straight onto the unit. Another cause of damage is a power surge when jump-starting the car with a booster pack. Simply drying the amplifier does not reverse the corrosion that has already started on the circuit board.

How can you tell that the amplifier is damaged?

After water ingress, the amplifier does not have to go silent straight away, because the damage develops gradually. Signs of a fault in the module may include:

  • no sound from one speaker or from some of the channels, while the rest still play,
  • crackling, whistling or humming from the speakers,
  • a blown amplifier fuse and a MOST communication fault,
  • complete silence: no sound from the radio, parking sensors or messages, and an on-screen notice that there are no audible notifications.

What should you send before dispatch?

Send the removed amplifier itself to the workshop, not the car. Write when the fault appeared, whether there was water in the boot, and whether the fuse blew. Include a photo of the amplifier and the sticker with the part number, as the model marking helps confirm the version. On that basis we will prepare an initial quote, and we will confirm the exact price after checking the module. We repair original BMW units, not Android replacements.
