If the car has the factory-fitted CD73 Professional (Alpine) radio, used roughly between 2004 and 2013, we accept this module as part of our BMW 3 Series E93 radio, navigation and amplifier repair service. We check the removed unit, without the car.

How to confirm you have a CD73 radio

The front panel is marked BMW Professional, and the manufacturer is Alpine. The label on the metal casing, visible once the radio has been removed, gives certainty: Alpine manufacturer, the name “Radio BMW Professional CD”, BMW CD73 model and part number. Attach a photo of this label to your enquiry.

The radio is silent, and the car loses warning signals

This radio fault is not just about losing music. The display stays black, and the unit does not respond to either the power button or the steering wheel buttons. At the same time, the sounds played through the car speakers disappear too: seatbelt warning chimes, low fuel or low temperature alerts, and PDC parking sensor signals. The dashboard may show the message “SOS call system failure”. At the same time, the button backlighting and CD mechanism may still work, which can be misleading, but points to a fault within the unit itself.

What the repair involves

The cause is damage to individual components on the main board responsible for start-up and stable operation of the radio. Once the module arrives, we go through three steps:

  • we connect the radio to the BMW test bench and confirm the symptoms,
  • after you approve the cost, we replace the damaged components with new ones,
  • we test startup, the display and the sound again.

The repair is hardware-based and does not change the radio software. Only the unit itself is sent in for service, without the climate control panel.

Can a black radio screen in the BMW 3 Series E93 be repaired without replacing the unit?

In the Alpine-made Professional radio, a black screen may be caused by damage to components on the main board, which we replace with new ones. We will confirm the scope and price after checking the removed radio at the bench.

Where can I find the label with the Professional radio model?

The label is stuck to the metal casing of the radio and can be seen once the unit has been removed. Look for the Alpine manufacturer, the name Radio BMW Professional CD and the part number on it, and attach a photo of it to your enquiry.

The radio does not switch on, but it takes in and ejects the disc. Is this the same fault?

This is what a fault in this radio can look like: the disc mechanism and button backlighting work, while the display remains black. The symptom points to a fault in the unit, so describe it clearly in your enquiry.

Do I need to bring the car in to repair the radio from the BMW 3 Series E93?

No, we check the removed radio, not the car. You arrange removal on site, send us the unit itself by courier without the climate control panel, and you receive an initial quote in advance based on the description and photos.

What does the radio check look like after repair?

The repaired radio goes back to the BMW test bench, where we check startup, display operation and sound. Only after these tests do we let you know the work is complete.
