How do you recognise Comand NTG4?

You can identify it by two features: the screen slides out automatically from the upper part of the dashboard, and on the unit’s panel, under the "ON" knob, there is a PCMCIA card slot.

Crackling in the speakers and no sound

In the Comand NTG4 unit, we mainly repair the audio section. Its symptoms are:

  • sudden, very loud crackling, knocking or "pops" in the speakers,
  • no sound, or only a quiet clicking sound, while the screen and navigation work,
  • knocking or squeaking heard even with the car switched off.

The fault appears once the unit has warmed up – after a few minutes of driving or when restarting a hot car – and disappears when the car cools down. We also repair NTG4 that keeps resetting, freezes on the Mercedes-Benz logo, or does not start at all.

What should you send us and how do we assess the unit?

For sound faults, we only need the main unit itself – the one with the buttons and disc slot; there is no need to remove the retractable screen.
