Frequently asked questions and answers
Repair of radio, navigation and amplifiers Mitsubishi Outlander III: booking, module shipment and quote.
Do you repair the factory Rockford Fosgate amplifier from the Mitsubishi Outlander III?
Yes, we accept the factory Mitsubishi and Rockford Fosgate amplifier fitted under the front passenger seat in the Mitsubishi Outlander III. We test the amplifier once it has been removed, and you arrange removal on site.
Why does the battery in the Mitsubishi Outlander III go flat while parked?
One possible cause is an amplifier which, after water ingress or a short circuit, does not go into sleep mode and keeps drawing power. Whether it is at fault will be shown by testing the removed unit.
There is a whine from the speakers even though the radio is switched off. What should I do?
This symptom may indicate a short circuit in the amplifier power stage. Disconnect the amplifier to avoid making the damage worse, and send it in for testing with a brief description of what you can hear.
What photos should I send for a quote for the amplifier from a Mitsubishi Outlander III?
Send a photo of the amplifier and the sticker with the part number, state the car’s year and describe the fault. Based on that, we will provide an initial quote, and we will confirm the exact price after testing the module.
Do you repair replacements fitted instead of the factory audio system?
No, we only accept factory units, and we identify their origin by the sticker with the part number. We do not repair Android radio-navigation units or other replacements.
Repair of radio, navigation and amplifier Mitsubishi Outlander III at OEMatic covers the factory units for this model, including the Mitsubishi 8701A474 (Rockford Fosgate) amplifier fitted in the Outlander III from 2013–2021, as well as in the ASX and Lancer X models.
Where does the Rockford Fosgate amplifier operate?
The 8701A474 amplifier is an eight-channel power amplifier branded by Mitsubishi (Melco) and Rockford Fosgate. It sits under the front passenger seat, in the recess in the floor, i.e. at the lowest point in the cabin. Spilt drinks or water from melted snow on the mats run down there, and moisture damages the main board. Another cause of damage is a short circuit when starting the car with a booster pack.
Symptoms with which the amplifier comes in for repair
The following may indicate damage to the 8701A474 amplifier:
- silence in all speakers, even though the radio turns on, changes stations and shows the map,
- the battery is flat overnight because the faulty amplifier does not go to sleep and draws current while parked,
- hiss, whine or crackling that does not respond to the volume control and can still be heard even after the radio is switched off,
- no sound only from some speakers, for example at the rear or on one side.
If there is current draw, whining or the smell of burnt electronics, disconnect the amplifier so that the short circuit does not make the damage worse.
How do I send the amplifier for testing?
Only the removed amplifier is sent to the workshop, not the car; you arrange removal from under the seat on site. In the booking, state the car’s year, describe the symptom and say whether there was water or a spilt drink under the seat. Attach a photo of the unit and the sticker with the part number. Based on that, we provide an initial quote, confirm the exact price after testing the module, and start the repair after your approval. We do not repair replacements fitted instead of the factory set.
