NTG4.5 or Audio 20 – which unit is in your car?

Audio 20 in the NTG5.1 version was fitted in the B-Class cars from 2015–2019. On its label, in the Model field, you will see NTG5*1 CD or NTG5*1 BASE. NTG4.5 units came from several factories – Melco, Harman Becker and Matsushita – and you do not need to identify the manufacturer. A photo of the label and the front of the unit is enough.

How can you tell the module is faulty?

In NTG4.5, signs of a problem with the unit may include:

  • no response to the power button, a black screen and silence from the speakers,
  • repeated resetting back to the logo,
  • freezing and no response to the buttons,
  • crackling in the speakers, immediately after start-up or after some time.

In Audio 20, a common sign of the reported faults is fan noise with a black screen; the unit does not switch on or, after the logo appears, restarts in a loop.

What do we establish after receiving the unit?

We inspect the removed module, without the car, and confirm the exact repair price. An earlier quote, prepared from photos and a description of the fault, is only approximate. We start the repair after your approval. We do not repair Android replacements fitted instead of the factory unit.
