When submitting, provide the car make, model and year, a detailed description of the symptoms, and send a photo of the front and the rating plate sticker with the part number. You do not need to know the radio model name – we will ask for the part number if needed.
Our repair of the radio, navigation and amplifier in the BMW 1 Series E81 mainly concerns the factory-fitted BMW CD73 Professional (Alpine) radio. We check the unit removed from the car, not the car itself.
BMW CD73 Professional (Alpine) is a CD player radio used in BMW cars from around 2004–2013. On the front panel it says “Professional”, and the manufacturer and part number are confirmed by the label on the metal casing, visible once the radio has been removed from the dashboard.
CD73 units come to us that have stopped starting up: the display stays black and the radio does not respond to the power button or the steering wheel buttons. Along with the radio, the car’s system sounds also fall silent, including warning chimes and parking sensor (PDC) signals. It can be misleading that the button backlighting still works and the mechanism still takes in and ejects the disc. The message “SOS call system failure” may also appear on the instrument panel. This set of symptoms points to damage to components on the radio’s main board, not a software fault.
In your enquiry, tell us whether the fault appeared suddenly, whether the button backlighting works, and whether the chimes and PDC signals have disappeared. Attach a photo of the panel and the label with the part number; you do not need to know the radio name. Based on this, we give an initial, approximate quote. We confirm the exact price after checking the radio, and we only start the repair after your approval. We repair factory radios identified by the label; we do not accept Android units fitted in their place.
