Our Audi Q5 I radio, navigation and amplifier repair service includes, among other things, the factory-fitted Bang & Olufsen (Lear) amplifier used in Q5 models from 2009–2017. We work on the removed module, without the car.

Bang & Olufsen (Lear) amplifier – how to identify it

The amplifier was made by Lear on behalf of Bang & Olufsen. In the car it is located on the right-hand side of the boot, under a plastic cover. It communicates with the other units via the fibre-optic MOST bus and is linked to the vehicle by Component Protection. A photo of the sticker with the part number lets us confirm that it is this module.

Symptoms that may point to the amplifier

Owners describe two scenarios. In the first, the sound disappears suddenly while driving, even though the radio stays on and the display continues to work as normal. In the second, the loss of sound is accompanied by the MMI display, which switches on briefly and then goes off. The cause may be voltage spikes leading to a short circuit, or damp in the boot: water and damp dust settle on the main board and cause corrosion of components and tracks.

What we do with the removed amplifier

Once the module is delivered, we check how it works and locate the fault, then provide a quote; we start the repair after your approval. The scope depends on what we find on the board:

  • in the event of a short circuit, we replace the damaged components with new ones,
  • if it has been flooded, we clean the board, restore the corroded tracks and solder the components back in,
  • after the repair, we test the amplifier and its communication over the MOST bus,
  • finally, we protect the electronics with an anti-corrosion agent.

The more extensive the corrosion, the greater the amount of work required. In extreme cases, the main board may need replacing, and then the amplifier must be reprogrammed. Before the module goes back in place, make sure the boot is dry – prolonged contact with water is also harmful to protected electronics.

Frequently asked questions and answers

Audi Q5 I radio, navigation and amplifier repair: enquiry, module shipping and quote.

Do you repair the Bang & Olufsen amplifier from Audi Q5 I?

Yes, we accept the factory Bang & Olufsen amplifier made by Lear. We inspect the removed module, provide a quote and only start the repair after your approval.

The radio works, the screen is on, but there is no sound from the speakers — is it the amplifier?

A sudden loss of sound with the radio on and the display working may point to the amplifier. Only checking the removed module gives certainty, so in your enquiry describe when and how the sound disappeared.

Where does corrosion in an amplifier mounted in the boot come from?

Moisture reaches the boot from rain, wet loads or through seals that lose their tightness over time. Water and damp dust settle on the amplifier's circuit board and damage components and tracks.

Does the amplifier need to be programmed to the car after repair?

Programming is needed after replacing the circuit board, because the amplifier is protected by Component Protection. That is why we first repair the original board, and treat replacement as a last resort.

What should you send and what information should you provide when registering an amplifier repair?

Send the removed amplifier by courier only, without the car. In your enquiry, provide the car's year, a description of the symptoms and a photo of the sticker with the part number, and also say whether there was water in the boot.
