Bose amplifier in the Audi A6 C6

We repair the factory Audi (Bose) amplifier used in the A6 from 2004–2011. In the A6 C6 it is located in the boot on the driver’s side, under the trim, so water getting into the boot can reach the electronics. The amplifier is part of the fibre-optic MOST bus: when it stops working, it breaks the circuit and can disable the entire MMI system.

Symptoms of a damaged or flooded amplifier

After flooding, the Bose amplifier can show different symptoms depending on what has been damaged:

  • MMI does not start or keeps restarting in a loop, and the screen stays black,
  • there is sound only from some of the speakers, or some channels play noticeably quieter,
  • you can hear crackling and noise, or the sound cuts out even though the MMI works,
  • the battery discharges because the amplifier draws power after the ignition is switched off.

What should I do before sending it?

Do not dry a flooded amplifier on a radiator or with a hairdryer, and do not switch it on for a “test” — high temperature and a short circuit can damage further components. Describe the symptom, attach a photo of the unit and the sticker with the part number, and provide the car’s make, model and year.
