Black screen while the sound works

In this navigation unit we repair a fault whose symptoms can easily be mistaken for a faulty display:

  • the screen stays black – no start logo, menu or reversing camera image is visible,
  • the radio plays, and the volume can be adjusted,
  • when the panel buttons are pressed, you can hear the unit switching functions, although nothing is visible.

Replacing the display or the entire front panel does not help, because the cause lies in the components on the main board that are responsible for the video signal.

What determines the repair?
