In the Passat B7 we repair the RNS510 radio-navigation system (Continental), produced roughly between 2008 and 2016. The faults we handle concern the unit’s power supply circuit and CAN communication.
How can you tell the fault is in the module?
Lack of CAN communication in the RNS510 can be recognised by several symptoms at once:
- the navigation does not switch off when the key is removed, or does not switch on when it is inserted,
- after turning the key, the buttons on the front panel do not light up,
- the multifunction steering wheel controls do not work,
- the parking sensors do not work,
- the unit cannot be connected to with a diagnostic interface.
The power fault looks different: there are pops and humming in the speakers, the radio resets after the welcome logo, and the battery discharges while parked.
