Repair of the Seat Altea radio, navigation and amplifier covers two factory navigation systems: RNS315 (TechniSat) from around 2010–2015 and RNS510 (Continental) from around 2008–2016. Each has different fault symptoms.

RNS315 – messages, code and panel

For this unit, we deal with software and hardware faults. The first group includes:

  • the message “Please insert software CD” on the screen,
  • the “Software Update” screen immediately after switch-on,
  • no device code,
  • freezing, resets or no response to the NAVI button.

On the hardware side, we repair a non-working touch screen, a cracked display, a broken aerial socket, worn panel buttons, and a unit that does not read CDs or SD cards.

RNS510 – speaker pops and no communication

Loud pops, bass hum and crackling in the speakers, a reset loop and a flat battery may indicate a fault in the power supply section on the RNS510 main board. This is a hardware fault, so a software update will not fix it. The second group of symptoms concerns CAN communication: the navigation does not switch off when the key is removed, the buttons do not light up and it does not respond to steering wheel controls.

Which navigation system is in your Altea

The RNS510 has a large touch screen and an SD card slot positioned centrally below it. If you are not sure, send a photo of the front panel and the sticker with the part number – we will identify the model. We check the removed unit, and confirm the exact cost before repair.

Frequently asked questions and answers

Repair of Seat Altea radios, navigation systems and amplifiers: enquiry, module shipping and quote.

The navigation system in the Altea is asking for the software disc. Do you repair this?

Yes. The message “Please insert software CD” is one of the faults of the RNS navigation system in this model that we deal with. We finish the repair with a full test of the unit.

Can popping in the speakers be fixed with a software update?

No. Popping, humming and crackling can indicate a fault in the power supply section on the navigation system’s main board, in other words a hardware fault. A software update will not remove it.

The navigation system does not switch off after removing the key. What does that mean?

This symptom, together with the lack of button illumination and steering wheel control, may indicate a lack of CAN communication in the unit. Describe all of these symptoms in your enquiry.

How do I tell which navigation system I have in my Seat Altea?

Send a photo of the front panel and the sticker with the part number, and we will identify the model. You can recognise one of the units by the large touch screen and the card slot positioned centrally below it.

Do you repair a cracked screen or worn navigation buttons?

Yes, a cracked display, a non-working touch screen and worn panel buttons are hardware faults that we repair in the TechniSat unit. Please attach a photo of the panel to your enquiry.
