The repair of the radio, navigation and amplifier Volkswagen Touran I (1T) covers three factory radio-navigation systems: RNS 310 (Bosch), RNS 315 (TechniSat) and RNS 510 (Continental). Each has different symptoms, so we describe them separately.
RNS 310 (Bosch): after a failed software upload
Units damaged during an update or “Polish language” conversion are sent in for repair. These may be indicated by:
- the brand logo, a brief reset and a screen that flashes 3 times with no content,
- a white screen with the message “Software update needed, Please insert download data carrier”,
- corrupted colours and graphics, shifted buttons,
- freezing on the start screen or no response to buttons.
RNS 315 (TechniSat): software and hardware
On the software side: the message “Please insert software CD”, the “Software Update” screen immediately after switch-on, freezing, resetting and no response to the NAVI button. On the hardware side: a non-working touchscreen, broken display, torn FM or GPS antenna socket, worn buttons and unreadable CDs or SD cards.
RNS 510 (Continental): speaker crackle and no CAN communication
Crackling, humming and distortion in the speakers, endless reboots with a flashing screen and battery drain in this unit point to a power supply fault on the main board; a software update will not remove it. A separate fault is no CAN communication: the navigation does not switch off when the key is removed, the panel buttons do not light up, and the steering wheel controls do not work.
In your enquiry, state the Touran’s year and attach a photo of the unit and the sticker with the part number. We test the removed module, and we start the repair after the cost has been approved.
Frequently asked questions and answers
Repair of radio, navigation and amplifiers Volkswagen Touran I: enquiry, module shipping and quote.
Which navigation unit do I have in the Touran I – Bosch, TechniSat or Continental?
You don’t need to know that before submitting the unit. Send us a photo of the front of the device and the sticker with the part number, and we’ll identify the unit and match the symptom description to the correct model.
After an attempted Polish language conversion, the Bosch navigation in the Touran shows a white screen – what now?
A white screen with a prompt for the software medium is a sign of a failed firmware upload. We repair such units; do not try flashing it again, just submit the device for a quote.
Will a software update get rid of the crackling in the speakers in a Touran I?
No. In the Continental navigation, crackling, humming and distortion point to a power supply fault on the main board, in other words a hardware problem. An update will not fix it.
The navigation in the Touran does not switch off when the key is removed – what does that mean?
In the Continental unit, this is one of the symptoms of no CAN communication, along with non-working steering wheel controls and no button illumination. We repair this fault in the removed unit.
Do you need the car to repair the navigation in a Touran I?
No. We test the removed module, so the car stays with you. You arrange removal with a mechanic on site, and we start the repair only after you accept the cost.
